A new device can rapidly identify nearly 200 different types of
bacteria and yeast known to cause disease in people. The new device is
called VITEK MS. The device uses a technology called matrix-assisted
laser desorption/ionization–time of flight mass spectrometry
(MALDI-TOF MS).
